THE HISTORY BEHIND MODESTY STORY PHOTO BOOKS
The history of civilization proves that even in the darkest times, humanity has the innate tendency to find the good in every evil and trouble. And it’s precisely this inner struggle to search for a ray of light that has sustained us throughout time.
The events of 2020, particularly the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, thrust the world into a period of unprecedented isolation and uncertainty. Suddenly, everything we considered normal was taken away, forcing us to confront the fragility of life and the unpredictability of our existence. We realized that everything could change in the blink of an eye. We received a “cold shower” that reminded us that we should not take anything or anyone for granted. We learned that “mankind plans while nature smiles.”
In the face of such adversity, amidst the fear and uncertainty, when our loved ones were so close and far, we started seeing things with different eyes. Every day, we found out hour by hour how many people had died, and we anxiously read the news, fearing to find the name of a loved one among them. We eagerly waited to receive a message or a call from our loved ones just to confirm they were alive. We understood the beauty and tragedy of life in its unpredictable finitude and recognized the momentary nature of life itself. It was during these long days and endless nights of isolation that the seed of an idea was planted – the need for a “keeper of memories.”

In that isolation, we had enough time to turn to ourselves and understand what we had lost and could still fix. We needed to re-establish a value system worth living, return to the pillars of our lives, and to what mattered – those we love.
For many of us, myself included, those long days and endless nights of isolation brought the realization that love kept us going. We also realized the importance of our memories. While imprisoned in isolation, our memories reminded us what life was and is about. The remembrances of shared moments, family gatherings, weddings, holidays, comings of age, or graduations kept us going and gave us hope. Then, the fear of not adequately preserving the memories of our loved ones became a source of anxiety. I realized that amidst the chaos of life, I had neglected to document the moments that mattered to me most safely. Talking to my friends and relatives, I soon realized that they shared the same emotion. That’s how an idea was slowly born, and then came our mission to create a permanent way to protect our memories and the memories of our loved ones from being forgotten. We needed a way to have our loved ones always present with us. And so, I think that that’s when “Modesty” began to take shape.
I often felt overwhelmed by the fact that my family and I, due to a combination of different circumstances, found ourselves living far from our homeland and our loved ones. We had left everything somewhere between the Adriatic, the Carpathians, and the Alps. The only things we kept with us were our memories and feelings. Memories became our most cherished possessions, the only remnants of a life left behind in distant lands.
With this profound realization fueling our determination, “Modesty” was born. I didn’t create it as a business project with a predetermined business plan. “Modesty,” as the word itself describes it, was born from the heart, conceived to preserve the most crucial ingredient of life – memories.
So, from the depths of isolation emerged “Modesty” – a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the enduring power of love.
